Filesystem.Monitor and inotify

Did I hear correctly that someone had modified Filesystem.Monitor to use methods other than polling? Can anyone fill me in on what's been done in that department (including code)? I have 7.9.5 and it doesn't appear to be present…

I remember promising to grubba that I will write a subclass of
Filesystem.Monitor that uses inotify. However, i have not actually done
it. Since christmas is approaching, I might find a cold winter night to
start.
